Arts on Grand’s Summer Art Camp
has been made possible thanks to AmeriCorps grant funding
administrated through the Iowa State University, Clay County
Extension office. Two week-long day camps will be led by AOG's
Artist in Residence, Chad Elliott, and held at the Art Barn
located on the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Thanks to Farmers Trust and Savings Bank for supporting the
project financially, enabling 10 full scholarships and partial
camperships for all other participants.

Friday July 28
FIRE was the subject for Friday.
The clay whistles made on Monday were fired in AOG's kiln, then
fired again in a metal container filled with burning wood at the
Art Barn, to give the whistles a natural, smoky color.
The kids made s'mores over their natural made kiln, had an
impromptu water fight to cool off in the hot weather, then ended
camp with strawberry cake and freeze pops!

End of camp was celebrated with Strawberry
Cake thanks to Kay Kracht, left over from the Backyard Bach &
Blues fund-raiser. Campers were joined by Phil Hurst, Clay
County Fair manager, and instrumental in securing our new home
for the arts on the fairgrounds!

Cleanup time! Thanks to everyone for
helping!

The Arts on Grand (AOG) Summer Art
Camp for participants aged 13 and up, will be held July 17 - 21. In this camp, teen
participants will have the unique experience of making a large
scale ceramic-sculpted mural that will become a permanent
addition to the Art Barn located on Clay County fairgrounds. In
addition to this ‘community’ project, participants will
experiment with all-natural art-making and nature sketching.
Cost of the Summer Art Camp has
been reduced to $125 per camper thanks to a grant received from
the Farmers Trust & Savings Bank. This same grant further
provides full financial assistance to a limited number of
individuals on a first come basis. Campers will need to bring a
sack lunch each day, though snacks will be provided.
The second camp, to be held July
24 – 28, will be for participants aged 9 -13. Young campers will
have a chance to experience art in nature first hand with days
filled with primitive pottery, animal sketching, cloud drawing,
and many other outdoor activities. Participants will have
amazing adventures in nature and art!
Each camp is limited to 20
participants so early registration is strongly recommended.
Anyone interested in assisting in
any way with these two weeks of camp is encouraged to call Arts
on Grand for more information about duties and compensation
