Chartered in 1979 as a not-for-profit organization, the Spencer Area Arts Council now operates out of an historic building on Grand Avenue in Spencer, Iowa, known as Arts on Grand.

Arts on Grand is home to:
~an exhibit gallery ~ gift gallery ~ classroom studios ~ black & white     photography darkroom ~ administrative offices ~ board room ~ resource library

Arts Council operations are funded through memberships, sponsorships, fund-raisers, income from classes, workshops, other operations & gallery sales, and grants from the City of Spencer, Clay County, and the Iowa Arts Council, a Department within the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
